CHICKENSTOCK 2026Date: Saturday 23 May
Time: 1:00pm – 5:00pm
Location: Climate Action Campus, Christchurch, 180 Avonside Drive
Can a chicken climb stairs? Do a high jump? Be rounder than another chicken?
On Saturday 23 May, Christchurch will once again gather to answer these important questions.
Welcome to Chickenstock 2026, Christchurch’s premier poultry athletics event. A family-friendly afternoon where real chickens compete in a series of highly questionable sporting events, all in support of a very real cause.
Expect mazes. Tiny athletic hurdles. Dramatic stair climbs. Questionable obedience. Unexpected emotional investment in chickens you met 15 minutes earlier.
Chickenstock is a wholesome, alcohol-free daytime event for the whole family, featuring real chickens competing in events including obstacle runs, egg pulling, dressage, and the legendary stair climb.
The wellbeing of all chickens comes first at this event.

All proceeds from Chickenstock go toward fundraising for the Climate Action Campus Sensory Playground Project.
SPONSOR A CHICKEN 🐔
The official Chickenstock weigh-in has now been completed and the competitors are officially locked in, loosely supervised, and preparing mentally for competition day.
You can now sponsor your favourite chicken directly through the Chickenstock Humanitix event listing.
All sponsorship money goes directly toward fundraising for the Climate Action Campus Sensory Playground Project.
Sponsors will go in the draw to win one of 5 copies of Coop, a brilliant New Zealand-designed family card game about chickens escaping captivity. Additional spot prizes and surprises may also appear throughout the event.
Choose your loyalties carefully. Some chickens appear highly motivated. Others seem surprised to be involved at all.

THE MAIN EVENT CARD
The seven official Chickenstock events are:
🥚 The Egg Pull
A test of strength where chickens attempt to pull a tray of eggs across the arena.
🐔 The High Jump
Chickens attempt increasingly difficult jumps until only one competitor remains.
🌀 The Maze Run
Can chickens navigate a maze simple enough for a toddler?
Current evidence is inconclusive.
🎀 Chicken Dressage
Precision movement. Elegance. Chaos.
⚪ Roundest Chicken
Which chicken is closest to achieving spherical perfection? Only healthy chickens will be considered.
🏆 The Legendary Stair Climb
The marquee event of Chickenstock. Chickens complete a short sprint, tackle a flight of stairs, then sprint again in the ultimate test of poultry athleticism.
👑 Best in Show
Audience voting decides which chicken wins the hearts of the people, regardless of actual sporting ability.

IMPORTANT CHICKEN DISCLAIMER
There is a non-zero chance that some chickens may refuse to participate in organised athletics due to performance anxiety, existential confusion, or simply being chickens.
This is not considered a flaw in the event. It is considered part of the experience.
