One of the world’s preeminent conductors and the Chicago Symphony’s distinguished tenth music director from 2010 until 2023, Riccardo Muti returns to Krannert Center as the orchestra’s Music Director Emeritus for Life. This artistic partnership transports us to the landscapes of southern Spain with vivacious, dance-inspired works by Falla and Chabrier. The journey begins in Riccardo Muti’s native Italy with a boisterous overture by Donizetti and sumptuous ballet music by Verdi. Golijov’s Megalopolis Suite, a CSO commission and world premiere, features music from his score to the 2024 release of Francis Ford Coppola’s epic film in which the fate of Ancient Rome haunts a modern world. Founded in 1891, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra is consistently hailed as one of the greatest orchestras in the world. Performing in over 150 concerts each year, the CSO’s dedicated musicians are the driving force behind the ensemble’s famous sound heard on best-selling recordings as well as in performances in Chicago and on tour throughout the state of Illinois, United States, and around the globe.
Tickets will go on sale August 21.
