Wesley United Methodist Church would like to invite the C-U community to the 2024 Wesley Fall Seminar, “The Path of Self-Knowledge, Mental Health, and Love: A Sufi Meditation Experience”. Attendees will learn about and practice techniques that have been used for centuries in the Sufi tradition to help people become more connected to their own inner light, thereby becoming more whole and loving. The seminar will be led by Dr. Saloumeh DeGood, who is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Chicago, IL, and Fort Wayne, IN. In her practice, Dr. DeGood specializes in the Sufi Psychology paradigm, which draws upon the 1400-year-old history of Sufism. Central to this work is the Tamarkoz Sufi meditation method, which includes relaxation, breathing exercises, slow meditative movements, and visualization. These are performed in a progressive fashion to facilitate a heart-centered state of awareness.
The seminar will consist of an introductory lecture by Dr. DeGood, followed by a live Tamarkoz session. Both parts will take place in the sanctuary of Wesley United Methodist Church, 1203 W Green Street, Urbana, on November 10, 2024 from 2-4 pm.
