About this Event

Our Albany Farm Open House is an opportunity for the community to explore our farm and learn about the various ways Chicago FarmWorks is investing in the East Garfield Park community. Chicago FarmWorks staff will be onsite to talk about our current programming, as well as how you can get involved and stay informed about future engagement opportunities with us. While RSVPs are not required to attend, we ask that you register to let us know you're coming. This will help us gauge how many produce bags and books to prepare for this event.

Open House Giveaways:

We will be giving out a limited number of free fall produce bags to event attendees. Open Books has also generously donated free books that will be available to take home, as well!

  • Please Note: Due to limited supplies, both the produce bags and the books will be given on a first come first serve basis to registered and walk-in attendees. An RSVP does not guarantee ticket holders will receive a produce bag or books. There is a limit of one produce bag per household and 2 books per person, until supplies last.

Learn More:

is an urban farm located in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. For many low-income communities, affordable food, especially affordable healthy food, is in short supply. To help address this problem, Heartland Human Care Services (HHCS) operates two urban farm lots in Chicago’s East Garfield Park neighborhood called Chicago FarmWorks. We are able to grow, harvest and distribute our produce with crucial support from our volunteers and our transitional job participants who are working to overcome many barriers to secure permanent full-time jobs. The produce we grow on our two farm lots goes to our local pantry partners Breakthrough Ministries Fresh Market , Mission of Our Lady of the Angels food pantry, and Rush's Food is Medicine Program.

is a nonprofit literacy organization that helps transform lives through reading, writing, and the unlimited power of books. They partner with communities to ensure that youth and families have equitable access to be lifelong readers. Open books is committed to working in community with their neighborhood partners toward a collective effort to grow and foster a literacy-strong Chicago. They work to break down systemic barriers to reading and literacy and build strong values of reading. Through neighborhood partnerships, they design and implement literacy initiatives for youth, families, caregivers, and communities on the South and West sides of Chicago by providing high-quality resources, experiences, and book-centered spaces. They employ people power and a variety of pathways for books to fuel our placemaking initiatives so that reading can happen anywhere, anytime.
