Join us at Benjamin Franklin House (36 Craven Steet, London) for our brand-new Chess Club!
About this Event
Join us for an afternoon of strategy in the very building where Benjamin Franklin once lived.
Thursday 27th May, 2026.
4:00pm - 5:30pm
36 Craven Street, WC2N 5NF
Whether you are a beginner or a grand master, all players are welcome. We run the chess club regularly at the House, where you will get a chance to play in the very same rooms Franklin would have hosted games in over 250 years ago.
How does the Chess Club Work?
Each session, we will have chess boards set up throughout the historic rooms of the House where we invite players to take part in games either with friends or other members of the club.
We will have six games going at once, with a winner-stays-on rule to allow players a chance to rotate around the room.
If numbers are high, we invite non-players to explore the site whilst they wait for a game. We will also be using timers to moderate the games with each player given 10 minutes.
Staff will be on hand to help players and offer guidance, but we also hope seasoned players will also be willing to share their skills and tactics with beginners to help all club members progress in their game.
