Charlies Sounds – Launch Event
Thursday 28th May | Doors 7PM

We’re proud to introduce Charlies Sounds, a new listening series dedicated to experiencing great records in the best possible way.
For our very first event, we’re focusing on two intertwined works from one of the most important voices in modern music and culture:
Gil Scott-Heron × Jamie **
Both albums will be played in full, in pitch black, through our large-scale d&b audiotechnik sound system — removing distractions and allowing the music to take centre stage.
The Albums
7:00PM.- Gil Scott-Heron & Brian Jackson – Pieces of a Man (1971)
Pieces of a Man is Gil Scott-Heron’s debut studio album and the beginning of his long-running collaboration with Brian Jackson. Recorded in New York in 1971, the album marked a shift from spoken-word performance to fully realised song structures, blending soul, jazz, funk, R&B and early rap.
Widely regarded as one of Scott-Heron’s most important works, the album has received decades of critical praise and is often cited as a foundational influence on hip hop, electronic music, and socially conscious songwriting.
8:30PM - Gil Scott-Heron & Jamie ** – We’re New Here (2011)
Released 40 years later, We’re New Here sees producer Jamie ** rework Scott-Heron’s final studio recordings. Incorporating dubstep, UK garage, and modern electronic textures, the album recontextualises Scott-Heron’s voice for a new generation while preserving its emotional weight and political urgency.
The project stands as a rare and respectful collaboration across eras, bridging analogue soul and contemporary club culture.
