About this Event

As Charles Dickens himself wrote in A Christmas Carol, “For it is good to be children sometimes, and never better than at Christmas, when its mighty Founder was a child himself." Come join us for a special reading of the classic yuletide tale, A Christmas Carol, with former bookseller and theater kid Elijah Pasco in the role of Charles Dickens. Never was there a better time to get in the holiday spirit among fellow booklovers!

“Bah!” said Scrooge. “Humbug!”

With those famous words unfolds a tale that renews the joy and caring that are Christmas. Whether we read it aloud with our family and friends or open the pages on a chill winter evening to savor the story in solitude, Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is a very special holiday experience.

It is the one book that every year will warm our hearts with favorite memories of Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim, Bob Cratchit, and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future—and will remind us with laughter and tears that the true Christmas spirit comes from giving with love.

Charles Dickens is the author of many novels and serial works including The Pickwick Papers, Oliver Twist, Dombey and Son, Bleak House, and David Copperfield. A Christmas Carol was published in 1843, sold out its first print run, and was reviewed favorably in the London Illustrated News, the Athenaeum and the Belfast Commercial Chronicle. He began performing A Christmas Carol in December 1853 and has given more than 100 performances. He resides in London, England.

Elijah Pasco is a graduate student at the University of Washington pursuing a Masters in Library and Information Science. He worked as a bookseller at Elliott Bay Book Company for four years and had the honor of bringing Charles Dickens to the reading room for the first time. He is once again putting his theater degree to use.
