About this Event
Character Creation Through Laban Technique With Diana Brown
Diana is bringing two workshops to LIF 2026. While each can be taken independently, we recommend booking both for a complete experience, as they are designed to complement and build upon one another.
Join Diana for this introduction to 'Character through Laban Technique'. With the application of this technique, we’ll learn to quickly find the physical, emotional and psychological centre of characters.
Laban movement was originally used in dance choreography and for dancers. Later it began to be used by actors to help them develop their performances.
Now, applying it to improv, Laban movement can help improv artists to:
- Develop their physical expressiveness
- Understand and support internal impulses
- Identify and play characters who are different from themselves
- Enhance understanding the more subtle characteristics about movement with respect to our character’s inner intention.
Participant Requirements: Please dress comfortably in clothes and shoes that allow you to embody multiple characters. Bring note taking materials, and your mobile phone so that you can access a QR Code for class reference materials, thank you.
What previous participants' have said:
"I had an incredible time in Diana Brown's workshop. I loved the affirming attitude Diana brought to the table and thought her scene-work coaching was incredible. I would recommend her workshop and coaching to anyone doing improv." — Robert Moore
