Chance Hayden plays Soul Standards February 11th 7:30pm-9pm. No cover donations/tips welcomed. Internationally acclaimed guitarist, composer and producer Chance Hayden of Portland, OR makes a long-awaited return to Sea Monster with a night of Soul Standards, classic r&b and soul tunes re-imagined and stripped down to a jazz trio aesthetic featuring Ross Garlow (bass) and Tarik Abouzied (drums). Always on the go as one of the region's most trusted string-slingers, Hayden has performed avidly since the mid-00s as a chameleon-like musician who fluidly adapts through jazz, blues, funk and soul. He continuously splits duties as both a bandleader and avid sideman for diverse acclaimed artists such as Farnell Newton, Darrell Grant, Saeeda Wright, Shelly Rudolph, Lloyd Jones, Mel Brown and Jarrod Lawson with whom he toured 15 countries. Hayden's albums Get Somethin’ (2018) and Grab & Go (2020) were followed by the stand-alone single Shag Bag (2022) featuring iconic keyboardist Ronnie Foster of 70s-era George Benson fame. Most recently, Hayden centered his creative focus around the seldom heard baritone guitar with Baritone Gold (2024), showcasing a dozen 60s-inspired originals that span from surf to soul-blues with Tarantino soundtrack vibes. Hayden’s works have been featured in television and film, including the Sony Pictures #1 box office hit The Perfect Guy, the award-winning BET series Being Mary Jane and the popular Netflix series The Waterfront.
