Chainmail Workshop

In this workshop, I'll teach you the basics of chainmail, different tools and weaves. I'll supply you with enough materials to walk away with 1 to 2 of my classic chain designs and the ability to create another piece for yourself or as a gift to your loved ones.

I'll guide you through the process of constructing a half persian weave. Once we have the fundamentals down, I'll show you ways you can customize your piece, and provide you resources to learn new weaves and suppliers.

My name is Lauren Chiu. I'm a chainmail artist and garment maker serving New Jersey and Philadelphia.

I have explored many mediums, from sewing to crocheting to leather working to tambour beading, just to name a few, but i've landed on chainmail as my main source of meditation. I'm constantly curious of different crafts, and I love adding to my vault to pick out as I please. By engaging with a variety of perspectives on different mediums, I am working to develop a rich visual vocabulary which allows me to translate the experiences of my inner self on to the human form.

I'm always encouraging people to tap into their playful side and explore different avenues, whatever that may be :)
