The 3-day conference aims to confirm and address the mounting challenges facing visual artists’ legacies.
About this Event

DAY #1 – REPRESENT Explores how major private or institutional collections are constructed, and how caretakers manage the legacies of artists who have passed. How do collections reflect current views on the artistic canon, and which artists come to be represented? How do artworks enter collections and established archives?

2) ARTISTS ENTERING MUSEUM COLLECTIONS - Estate Executors and Museum Representatives
3) ACCESSING ESTABLISHED ARCHIVES - What is the Process?


DAY #2 - PRESERVE Provides a basis for the specific methodologies behind the protection of estates: preservation of artwork and archives ensures that an artist’s legacy persists. Featured topics include legal, financial, accounting, and insurance issues, as well as appraisal, gifting/donation best practices.

DAY #3 - SUSTAIN Defines the importance of creating and maintaining practice through collective efforts. Platforms prominent artists’ individual approaches to legacy as well as the gallerist's role in sustaining these efforts.
