Cello for the Moon PhasesA 2 part concert series by The Wong Janice
15 november – Full Moon 19:00-21:00 PART 2
1 november - New Moon PART 1
(follow link: https://tinyurl.com/5bykr4f5)
Come and experience truly magical cello music at De Meditatietuin by internationally renowned performing artist The Wong Janice.
Each piece has been crafted during the Covid-19 lockdown period when she hosted some live-streams with journaling prompts for the community, one for the new moon and one for the full moon. Each piece was based on a looped chord progression and she improvised on top of it.
After 3 years, The Wong Janice has taken those concepts and released them separately for each moon phase and packaged them together to create a whole album and concert series. The pieces are performed on the cello, and processed through effects pedals and a loop machine which helps to build the layers and chords. This creates a more ambient soundscape which helps you to drift off and go deeper within yourself, rather than the typical classical cello sound.
WHAT WILL YOU DO
You will be guided through a journaling exercise for the Full Moon. Then, The Wong Janice will perform the second 4 cello pieces from her new album ‘Cello for the Moon Phases’ starting with the Full Moon, followed by the Waning Gibbous Moon, Last Quarter Moon and finally the Waning Cresent Moon. This will take 1 hour in total.
For the New Moon cello ceremony, please attend part 1 of this concert series on November 1st.
WHAT WILL YOU EXPERIENCE
We will meet at the Red bridge and walk together through the Amstelpark to the entrance of De Meditatietuin. Since the park closes at sunset, that’s why we meet there and go together. We will walk mindfully and slowly while being guided in the dark and listen to the sounds of the animals around us, and notice whether the moon is in sight. We will enter De Meditatietuin and have 15 minutes to settle in, have a cup of tea to warm our bodies and find a place on a mattress with a pillow and blanket where we will lie down (or sit, if you prefer) for the duration of the concert.
At the end, we will have the optional chance to share a word, line, thought, feeling or ask a question and then have a social moment with tea with the rest of the participants. We will all leave De Meditatietuin together and walk back to the Red bridge, ending this beautiful New Moon cello ceremony.
ABOUT YOUR FACILITATOR
The Wong Janice is a cellist and composer of music at the intersection of ambient cello and meditation. The philosophy of her music (inspired by Buddhism, Taoism and the law of nature) is for her as the player and also for you, the listener: to be free.
By using the cello and other instruments processed through effect pedals and loop machines, she creates all her music ‘in the moment’ from an uncontrolled yet focused consciousness ‘flow’ state, channeling the music through herself as the ‘vessel’. Whether you call it intuitive or improvised, it strengthens the idea that the music should be fluid and not bound by rules and what the composer once intended, but instead honoring what is present and relevant in the now.
Listeners have reported benefits such as calming of the nervous system, helping to fall asleep, increased clarity, and transformation of mood.
The Wong Janice has performed at everything from TEDxAmsterdam, Amsterdam Dance Event, Down The Rabbit Hole, Landjuweel, ecstatic dance, club nights, yoga retreats, cacao ceremonies, corporate events, conferences, private house concerts and weddings to online events such as Inner Peace Conference, Insight Timer Summit, corporate meditation concerts and regular live-streams for her community.
While she loves performing, she spends much of her time in her studio, dedicating time to recording and publishing her music and courses online. With 50 million Spotify streams and counting, 50 thousand followers on Insight Timer and a growing YouTube presence, her biggest joy is helping so many people from all over the world and all walks of life.
