Celebrate Texas Independence Day

We'll celebrate the declaration of Texas' Independence from Mexico on Sunday, March 2, 2025 with a few lively toasts at the Menger Bar downtown (where Teddy Roosevelt commissioned the Rough Riders.) The crowd usually starts showing up between 5:30pm and 6pm. After we drink all the Lone Star Beer in the house, we'll head across the street to the Alamo about 7:00pm (or so) for our annual group photo. Byron Buzzini and/or John Small will then read a brief history of the Siege of the Alamo.
This is a long-standing annual event for members of the San Antonio A&M Club and SA Rodeo Volunteers (in addition to other fellow Texans) that started 20+ years ago. Do your best to be there and celebrate Texas!

"You all may go to hell and I will go to Texas." - Davy Crockett
“I’d rather be a fence post in Texas than the king of Tennessee.” - Chris Wall
“Some folks look at me and see a certain swagger, which in Texas is called walking.” – George W. Bush
“Texas is neither southern nor western. Texas is Texas” -Senator William Blakley
“Only Texas could turn defeat into a legend–and a song, and a tourist attraction, and a major motion picture.” ~Rosemary Kent, speaking of the Alamo.
“There wouldn’t be no Alamo, No Cowboys in the Superbowl… No Lonesome Dove, no “Yellow Rose”, If it wasn’t for Texas.” – George Strait
“The enemy never sees the backs of my Texans!” – General Robert E. Lee, CSA
“Texas history is a varied, tempestuous, and vast as the state itself. Texas yesterday is unbelievable, but no more incredible than Texas today. Today’s Texas is exhilarating, exasperating, violent, charming, horrible, delightful, alive.” – Edna Ferber, author
“For all its enormous range of space, climate, and physical appearance, and for all the internal squabbles, contentions, and strivings, Texas has a tight cohesiveness perhaps stronger than any other section of America. Rich, poor, Panhandle, Gulf, city, country, Texas is the obsession, the proper study, and the passionate possession of all Texans.” – John Steinbeck
