CELEBRATE 20 YEARS OF ACTIVISM
Join Adirondack Voters for Change members and supporters for an event marking 20 years of community organizing on Sunday, March 2, 2025. The annual-meeting/anniversary-party will be held at their Community Hub, 38 Broadway, Saranac Lake.
Doors open at 4pm with live music provided by Rocky James and the Midnight Stargazers. A short business meeting will be followed by a live broadcast by Stephanie Koff and Greg Olear with Sarah Reeske, Organizing Manager with NYS Indivisible. Light refreshments will be available throughout. All are welcome; a donation of $20 is suggested.
Koff and Olear, hosts of The Five 8, a YouTube channel with over 6,000 subscribers, bring their viewers along for their weekly show with a no-holds-barred exchange about what’s happening in our world. Stephanie Koff is a screenwriter and writer/producer of hit podcasts "The World Beneath” and “Elizabeth The First." Greg Olear is the author of “Rough Beast: Who Donald Trump Really Is,” "Dirty Rubles," and "Empress," and is the host of the podcast "PREVAIL with Greg Olear." His Substack column is updated on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday.
The Indivisible movement is a progressive grassroots movement of millions of activists across every state, fueled by a partnership between thousands of autonomous local Indivisible groups and a national staff. Reeske will share her expertise to inspire and motivate our members to take effective action.
Formed in 2004 in opposition to the US invasion of Iraq, AVfC has served as a coalition building resource for issues ranging from taking a stand on Walmart’s plan to build in the Tri-lakes to supporting a referendum codifying equal rights in the NY Constitution. The all-volunteer group works through committees focused on topics such as climate change, reproductive rights, local assistance, voter information, and medical aid in dying.
Longtime member and former board president, Jim Abendroth remarked that, "Over the past 20 years, ‘Voters for Change’ has grown from informal meet-ups of friends who came together to speak out on meaningful issues facing our community, state, and nation to incorporating in 2017 as ‘Adirondack Voters for Change’ with a current membership of over 150 community-minded citizens. At our annual meeting on March 2 our most valuable asset, our members, will be celebrating the past 20 years and seeking ways to confront the difficult years ahead.”
The Community Hub, opened in July 2024 to provide a physical space for meeting and disseminating information during the last election season, will be closing shortly after this event. AVfC hopes to find a more permanent location for a community space in the future.
