About this Event

This three-part event series held in downtown Saranac Lake spotlights artists and scientists who are pushing the boundaries of their work.
Saranac Lake is home to a sometimes hidden community of artist/scientists. Leaders in climate research, wildlife ecology, and botany are moonlighting as artists in our community, interpreting their data in artistic displays, working to connect the public to their work through non-traditional pathways, coping with the grief of their findings, or celebrating the hidden workings of the world around us in captivating songs, paintings, poetry, and works of art.
Simultaneously, artists are applying scientific methodologies to explore new creative methods to create their work. Photographers using technology to capture wavelengths invisible to the human eye; ceramicists applying chemical reactions to achieve their artistic vision; and dancers applying the principles of physics to defy gravity.
Saranac Lake Science and Art will celebrate and explore the intersection of science and art through a multitude of voices and styles of work.
This 3-part speaker series will spotlight our scientists/artists working to connect our local community to essential information needed to make informed natural resource management decisions.
Faced with some of the greatest environmental challenges in human history β climate change and biodiversity loss β the voices bringing science into our living rooms are more important than ever.
