Starting our SUMMER OF PRIDE!You are invited to join CDR and RCIL this Saturday (June 6th) for the official unveiling of our SUMMER OF PRIDE banners. We will be gathering at 1:45 PM in front of our Rochester office (497 State Street) and unveiling the banners at 2:00 PM.
These are NOT your corporate LGBTQIA+ Pride banners, and they aren't just “art”. They are a deliberate and enthusiastic challenge to ableist myths that Disabled people are not sexual beings, not part of Queer communities, and not worthy of representation.
When folks see the banners, they may wonder whether we are celebrating LGBTQIA+ Pride or Disability Pride. We aren’t big on binary choices, so our answer is ALL OF THE ABOVE and so much more!
On Saturday, after we unveil the banners, we will have a short program of speakers, including the artist who created the designs. We will also serve refreshments.
Of course we will have ASL interpreters. Our building is accessible.
If you can, please let us know you will be coming, but an RSVP is not required. We are looking forward to seeing everybody!
The image is a teaser from one of the banners.
Image description: The image is a snippet of one of the banners. The brightly colored image shows the wheel of a manual wheelchair tipped back a bit. There are legs visible in the background. In the foreground is a yellow cloud shape with black lettering that says “Every Body!”
