About this Event
Join us for a unique experience at Hošek Contemporary, a gallery, performance space, and art residency located on a historical boat in Mitte, Berlin. The focus is primarily on performing arts, site-specific installations, and experimental sound works. The gallery hosts weekly improvised music sets, providing musicians an opportunity to showcase their sound skills to a Berlin audience.
Petr Hošek, born in 1988 in the Czech Republic, studied art history in Prague and Madrid before earning his MA at Charles’ University. Following a curatorial residency in New York City, he co-founded Gallery Plevel in Prague, showcasing online art in a renovated 19th-century industrial space. He later established Hošek Contemporary after relocating to Berlin in 2014.
Petr Hošek and his curatorial team will guide the visitors through the gallery space, the performance space, and the residency apartments of MS Heimatland, a boat from 1910 which is the seat of the gallery since 2018. The visitors will be introduced to the history of the place, and the gallery activities and also will learn about the upcoming program for 2024.
Facultatively after the visit, the visitors can join a concert 'Improvised & Experimental No. 199' (Set 1- Andrea Neumann/inside piano, -Set 2- Werner Dafeldecker/double bass, Eliad Wagner/synthesizer) at 19:30 (the ticket costs 10 € and can be purchased on spot, no reservation in advance is needed).
The conversation will be held in English. Registration via Eventbrite until 18.4. is requested. The event is part of the Contemporary Czech Art in Berlin (CCAiB) project and even if you can't make it to the visit, you can look forward to a new interview in the updated CCAiB podcast series.***
Contemporary Czech Art in Berlin (CCAiB) aims to systematically map, render visible, interconnect, and expand the existing networks of artists and curators with czech-german background. This project is built upon three key pillars: an online podcast, studio visits, and networking events. The podcast's essence lies in crafting a timeless online database that not only spotlights individual positions but also portrays a nuanced web of relationships by charting the Czech art scene within the context of its ties to the German art scene. Through this approach, we offer an overview of the breadth of connections and also archive individual positions, potentially enhancing the prospects for future collaborations.
