Paddling up Ross Creek through the city is surprisingly pretty in the dark. The plan is to head upstream before dawn and return as the sun comes up.The route is approximately 10km return, launching from The Strand at the Sailing Club (in front of Tobruk Pool). Conditions are well protected for most of the paddle (the only brief exposure is the short stretch around the rockwall) making this suitable for most paddlers.
Current forecast: Light winds (0–9 knots), offshore. Expecting flat water throughout.
Depart: 5:30am sharp - please arrive early enough to get boats and gear to the water before launch.
Return: 7:30–8:30am (depending on detours)
What to bring: Usual paddling gear. An all-round white deck light is required for paddling in the dark, plus a headtorch or accessible hand torch.
