About this Event
Join us for CapLit’s second reading event of the season, featuring riveting contemporary fiction from bestselling Bay Area author Vanessa Hua and from Chico-based writer Rob Davidson.
Award-winning local actor Mayette McDonald will be reading an excerpt from Hua’s new novel, Coyoteland, a story about wealth, privilege, the housing market—and the coyote of the title. Named a Most Anticipated Novel of 2026 by LitHub, Coyoteland is Hua’s third novel. Rob Davidson’s short story, “The Photograph,” a refreshingly quirky tale about an ordinary man who finds himself in the unexpected role of an artist’s muse, will be read by local actor Jim Sink. “The Photograph” comes from Davidson’s most recent story collection, Welcome Back to the World, winner of the 2025 National Indie Excellence Award in Short Stories.
Doors open at 6:30. $10 donation requested at the door; no one turned away for lack of funds. Paid parking in the lot at CLARA; some free parking on street. CapLit co-director Sue Staats’s famous cookies will be on hand as always. Lucid Winery wine available for sale.
