About this Event
The Capitol Pops Concert Band and Golden West Pops are joining forces for a wonderful afternoon of live music, bringing neighbors, families, and music lovers together for a free outdoor concert on Saturday, April 25th at 2:00 PM on the lawn in front of the California State Railroad Museum in historic Old Sacramento.
This special joint performance celebrates the spirit of community and the joy of live band music in one of Sacramento's most beloved and scenic settings. Admission is completely free, and all are welcome to bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the afternoon.
The Capitol Pops Concert Band, conducted by Susan Hamre, will open with a rich and varied program, including Carmen Dragon's sweeping orchestral arrangement of America the Beautiful, Johan de Meij's beloved The Hobbits from his celebrated Symphony No. 1 "The Lord of the Rings", a magical journey in sound, and Leroy Anderson's toe-tapping Clarinet Candy, along with additional pieces sure to delight audiences of all ages.
The Golden West Pops, conducted by Pollyanna Gorman, brings their signature wide-ranging style to the afternoon, performing the "Pops" band repertoire they're known and loved for, spanning everything from Ragtime to Rock, with show tunes, patriotic favorites, and beloved classics woven throughout. No matter your musical taste, Golden West Pops has something for you.
To close the afternoon, both bands will take the field together for a grand combined performance of John Philip Sousa's iconic "Manhattan Beach March", a rousing finale that promises to leave the crowd cheering.
"We are so excited to share this afternoon with the Sacramento community," said Susan Hamre, Capitol Pops Director. "There's something truly special about performing outdoors in Old Sacramento, and doing it alongside the Golden West Pops makes it even more memorable."
