Celebrate International Women's Day —
Capitalism is femicidal: Women resisters speak out
Femicide is on the rise. Australia’s count of women murdered in 2025 is 62. The death toll for the first month of this year is already six. Trans Day of Remembrance recorded 28 trans women killed. Murders of First Nations women are 13 times higher than those of non-Aboriginal women.
But these horrific figures are not the full picture of femicide. Treating the cause as male violence does not explain the devastation or offer answers. Plus the stats don’t account for deaths in custody and other forms of state violence. Nor do they cover the carnage from environmental destruction, war and genocide, unsafe and insecure work, denial of bodily autonomy, anti-disability abuse, homelessness, destitution, malnutrition and the impact of rampant bigotry.
In honouring International Women’s Day, we’ll hear dynamic voices of resistance against an inhuman system that centres its violence on women. And we’ll discuss how to end it!
Come and hear:
• Natalie Feliks, co-founder of Trans Action Network
• Kelly Flanagan, Wiradjuri woman, survivor of family violence, intergenerational trauma and member of FIGJAM (Formerly Incarcerated Girls Justice Advocates Melbourne)
• Rathy Barthlote, organiser of the 100-day refugee encampment outside Home Affairs and co-founder of Refugee Women Action for Visa Equality
• Maudie Osborne, Community and Public Sector Unionist, anti-fascist organiser and Radical Women member
All genders are welcome! Enjoy a delicious buffet after the program. Tickets are $25 solidarity, $15 waged and $10 unwaged for the program and buffet.
