May brings a quiet but important significance in Queensland as we recognise Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month. It is a time for our community to come together—to remember, and to honour those whose lives have been impacted by domestic and family violence.
On the first Wednesday of May, we observe Remembrance Day through a candle lighting ceremony.
We gather to cast a gentle light in honour of the women, children, and men who have lost their lives to domestic and family violence.
Date: Wednesday 6th May 2026
Time: 5:30pm – 6:30pm
Location: Wharf One Cafe | 1 Wharf St, Cairns
Cost: Free
At 6pm sharp, communities across the state pause together in a shared act of remembrance.
Candles are lit, illuminating the evening and symbolising our collective commitment to ending domestic and family violence.
It is a powerful reminder that these deaths are not inevitable—they are preventable.
And that each of us has a role to play in raising awareness, deepening understanding, and contributing to safer communities.
We invite you to join us for this meaningful evening.
To stand together in remembrance, in awareness, and in collective responsibility.
Because together, we can make a difference.
