Experience an unforgettable evening of performance as our combined Catholic schools and community forces, led by St Monica’s and St Augustine’s Colleges, present Belshazzar's Feast by English composer William Walton. This electrifying choral and orchestral spectacular sets dramatic biblical texts from the Book of Daniel, telling the story of the fall of the mighty Babylonian king Belshazzar. From the sorrowful lament of the exiled Israelites to the opulent excess of the royal feast, the mysterious “handwriting on the wall,” and the triumphant final chorus, Walton’s score is bold, rhythmic, and thrillingly powerful.
The first half of the evening will showcase performances from our participating school groups, including music and dance, celebrating the depth of artistic talent across Cairns Catholic schools. The second half culminates in a massed performance bringing students and community musicians together for this monumental and exhilarating major work.
