Panda QARA XALIQ are proudly to open up with a presentation of a latest album ‘There Will Come Gentle Rain’ by an artist-researcher, computer musician, and quraysı Stas Shärifullá aka HMOT. The album tells tails of a life split between cultures, of Bashqort legends, of finding strength in darkness, of betrayal, of demons and of aspiring to become invisible. ‘There Will Come Gentle Rain’ is firefly, desperate, it reflects the tumultuous state of the world, but it's simultaneously grounded, deliberate and vigorous. Born and raised in East Siberia, Russia, with Bashqort roots, Stas takes this dual heritage as a starting point to study the politics of indigeneity, reflecting on how the interaction of indigenous and non-indigenous sonic and listening practices turns them into tools for community-building, the preservation of collective memory, and the transformation of political imagination into direct action.Panda QARA XALIQ is a series of events curated by and performed by indigenous peoples of russia and transsoviet territories. A lot of peoples living in these territories are invisible beyond russian propaganda, while their languages and cultures are being continuously russified, leading to the risk of extinction for many. The political repressions against indigenous peoples also stay invisible, and we would like to run these series in solidarity with those who resist ongoing repressions in Bashqortostan. QARA XALIQ in Bashqort language means “regular people” and for these words, exactly eco activist Fail Alsynov were sent to prison for 4 years. We invite you to extend your solidarity with indigenous voices from russia and Central Asia. The events series includes readings, concerts, lectures, discussions and parties. We are all QARA XALIQ.
Panda QARA XALIQ curated by Maria Sarycheva and Dinara Rasuleva.
