About this Event
About the film
We'll be screening , a stop-motion adventure following a young girl and her cousin in Borneo as they fight to protect the rainforest. Blending humour, tenderness, and urgency, the film explores colonial legacy, environmental destruction, and human responsibility through the eyes of children and endangered orangutans in a visually rich, handcrafted world. Please note - the screening will kick off at 2:00pm sharp with no interval, and the film lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes. Of course, you are welcome to get a snack, take a break or use the bathroom at any point during the film.
Please note the film is rated PG.
Putting planet over profit
After the screening, we are hosting a Q&A with guest speakers.
We will briefly explain what Friends of the Earth do, both on a local as well as on a national level ,and what the Planet Over Profit campaign is all about.
There is also the possibilty to discuss local concerns!
We will also hear from a Rainforest Action group and a speaker who has been personally affected by the issues discussed in the film.
This film screening will support our local campaign- part of a national effort to protect forests and wildlife across the world that are under threat from the global supply chains of UK companies. In the post-film discussion we'll raise awareness of how this issue is impacting Indigenous communities and local people around the world, and how you can help us campaign for a new law that would require companies to prevent environmental harm and human rights abuses in their supply chains.
How you can join local climate action
The event will also be a great chance to meet like-minded folks, chat about making a difference, and enjoy some thought-provoking cinema. We are constantly recruiting new volunteers to join our expanding team - so please feel free to come along and find out more about what we get up to in the fight for environmental and social justice.
It should also just be a nice afternoon of company and lovely conversations.
For those interested, there's the option of continuing the conversation later at a local pub.
