About this Event
P LEASE NOTE THAT THE DURATION OF THIS EVENT SHOWN ABOVE IS ONLY APPROXIMATE AND CANNOT BE GUARANTEED; IT WILL DEPEND ON FACTORS SUCH AS THE WEATHER AND THE WALKING PACE OF THE GROUP.
Our Wednesday walks include a lunchtime pub stop. Requirements for meals from the pub menu are usually requested and ordered before the start of the walk by the leader. Walkers who prefer to take a picnic lunch are welcome to do so and the leader will have a place designated for this somewhere near the pub, in the village, or in the area where we are stopping for lunch.
It is very helpful for the walk leader to have prior knowledge of numbers that will be on this walk. We ask you to complete this very brief form to help with our planning of the walk to ensure that we can safely accommodate all who wish to join us. You will receive an automatic acknowledgement when you submit this form, and also a reminder of the details 2 days before the walk.

Walk description:
This is a 7.5-mile walk following the River Rea and Callow Brook walkway from Longbridge to the Waseley Hills and back, with an optional mid-afternoon meal at the Cambridge Inn from 3.15 pm.
It is now over 20 years since MG Rover went into administration, and 10 years since vehicle assembly finally ended at Longbridge. The area has since been transformed to include a shopping centre, a technology park and South Birmingham College. The site of the old West Works is now a pleasantly landscaped green corridor that meanders beside the River Rea, alongside ongoing modern developments and housing. Starting from the Cambridge Inn, we follow the River Rea walkway westwards before taking a loop around Great Park reservoir. We continue through Balaam's Wood until we arrive in Rubery. After a stroll along the village high street we walk through St. Chad's Park, then continue west until we reach Waseley Hills Country Park. Climbing gently, we follow well-defined paths with fine views towards the Malvern, Abberley and Clee Hills. Halfway into the walk we arrive at the visitor centre where we will take a break around lunchtime. Light refreshments are available here at the Windmill Cafe, and there are also public toilets. Our return journey takes us up to Windmill Hill - the highest point at 998 feet above sea level, with panoramic views over Birmingham and North Worcestershire. We then follow a tree-lined path downhill and along the east-facing slopes before returning to Rubery village and then retrace our steps back to Longbridge.
Expressions of Interest for this walk will close at 06.00 on Wednesday 13 May. After this, please email [email protected] to enquire about any late availability for the walk.
===================================================================
If you later find that you are unable to join us it would be helpful if you let us know by sending an email to [email protected] - this will be passed on to the walk leader and will prevent any delay to the start of the walk should the leader be waiting for you. Please note that some walks have a waiting list so tickets are NOT TRANSFERABLE; if you are unable to join us then please cancel your place to free it up for someone who may be on the waiting list rather than passing it to someone else.
