An Open View of the work of the Cafe Art Mentoring Group - RPS Trustee Joanne Segers will attend.
About this Event

Tonight is the Open View, when you will be able to meet some of the Photographers, the Mentors and other key players. We are delighted that one of our RPS Trustees, Joanne Segers ,will come along to say a few words and talk to the photographers.

This year’s exhibition includes images from 16 members of the Group, which was started in 2015 in recognition of the talents of some of the photographers who entered the CafeArt MYLONDON Calendar Context and wanted to take their photography further. It is an extension of but separate from the MYLONDON competition project, run by Cafe Art.

About the Mentoring Group

The participants have all experienced homelessness and the group sessions, run by volunteers from the Royal Photographic Society since 2015, are a way of empowering and engaging people.

The group meets at different locations every second Saturday afternoon, with a Zoom call the following weekend to discuss the photos taken. From these review sessions, the participants build a portfolio of photos from which the members of the group have selected just a few for this exhibition.

Each participant, who may have been a member of the group for several years or just a few months, has their own story of being homeless and we hope that this Exhibition shows, not only some of the photographic techniques learned during the year, but the personalities of the individuals as well.

In 2024 we held a fundraiser which enabled us to acquire cameras for the Group through the generosity of RPS members, CafeArt and supporters of Cafe Art, members of the public and most importantly FUJIFILM: we now have a FujiXT30ii Camera for each participant to use during the fortnightly workshops, which means that everyone starting is now on a level playing field with a quality camera.

Please come along and enjoy an Open View of the Exhibition.
