In chapter 11 of Latinx/e in Social Work, Vol. II, the author, Rosita L Marinez, MS-NPL, ADV-CSW, MSW, SIFI, talks about her journey toward self-acceptance while navigating assimilation and deep-rooted racism.

In this workshop we will learn how stereotypes can cause us to question our identity and thus be a barrier towards success. We will use this chapter as a case study to critically reflect upon the definition of “normal” and its interconnection to labels and stereotypes.
