Are you looking to get out into nature more? Need a fun way to do a little exercise?
Would you like to build a deeper connection with your local environment?
Are you worried about decreasing biodiversity and would like to make a tangible difference on the local level?
Would you like to meet up with like minded nature lovers?
Just need to touch some grass?
Then we’d love you to come and volunteer with us to help maintain our special oasis of native habitat at Wilkins Green. Spend a morning with us tending to this lush pocket of bush doing a variety of tasks such as pulling out weeds, planting and having a good yarn. Watch as the bush changes through the seasons, our plantings grow and flowers bloom, listen to the sounds of the local wildlife.
There are no requirements for experience, only enthusiasm, the curiosity to learn and a moderate level of fitness. We also welcome anyone with skills and knowledge in horticulture, bush regen, gardening, nursery and/or landscaping.
We recommend bringing gloves, a hat and a bottle of water. Tools are provided but you are more than welcome to bring your own favourites. We take a sacred 10am break, so if you would like to, please feel free to bring your own tea/coffee flask and perhaps a tasty snack to share. We meet fortnightly, but there is no pressure to attend every session.
Entrance to Wilkins Green is through the large metal gate on Sydenham road, approximately 50m from the traffic lights at the intersection of Sydenham road and Livingstone road. There is usually street parking available along Sydenham road. We hope to see you there!
In the case of forecast heavy rain or other inclement weather, we will make a post cancelling the event usually the night the before. We do usually go ahead if there is a little bit of a sprinkle.
