About this Event
Join internationally acclaimed Bulgarian folk singer, teacher, and choir director Tzvetanka Varimezova for an inspiring community vocal workshop presented by The Kitka Institute. Rooted in the rich village singing traditions of Bulgaria, this musical gathering invites singers of all backgrounds to experience the joy, resonance, and deep human connection of singing together in close harmony.
Drawing on decades of international performance and teaching experience, Tzvetanka will share her magical approach to uncovering the relaxed, vibrant, and naturally powerful voice within each participant.
The workshop will also feature a selection of exquisite traditional Bulgarian folk songs taught in the oral tradition, with an emphasis on blend, ornamentation, rhythm, and the thrilling sonorities of Balkan-style multipart singing.
Whether you are an experienced vocalist or simply someone who loves to sing, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn directly from one of the great tradition-bearers of Bulgarian vocal music while sharing in the transformative power of communal song. Reading Bulgarian or musical notation is not required. This workshop is open to everyone, regardless of age, gender, background, or experience level. Whether you are an accomplished singer eager to learn more about Bulgarian vocal techniques and ornamentation, or a novice ready to hold down a drone part, there is a place for you in Tzvetanka's choir!
TUITION: $30 suggested donation per person. More generous pay-it-forward donations are welcome, otherwise, pay what you can. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
