About this Event
This Film + Conversation Night features Buena Vista Social Club, Wim Wenders’ 1999 documentary following a group of Cuban musicians who reunite later in life to record and perform together after decades of being unheard beyond their local communities.
The film traces the artists’ journey from Havana to international stages, while remaining deeply rooted in their everyday lives, friendships and musical traditions. Through intimate portraits, rehearsal scenes and performances, it explores how music carries memory, identity and connection across generations.
The screening will be followed by a facilitated conversation inviting reflection on the film’s themes, stories and cultural context. Together, the evening offers a shared space for listening, reflection and dialogue around cultural memory, ageing, recognition and creative revival.
This event forms part of Hidden Beach’s Summer of Culture programme and is held as a collective cultural moment — open, welcoming and accessible, with no specialist knowledge required to take part. It invites people from different backgrounds to come together across communities and share in a meaningful experience centred on music, memory and connection.
