About this Event
Come and join us for a fuddle and speaker session from volunteers at Greenpeace Nottingham to hear about their latest campaign, the Great Gas Rip Off. You'll be learning how to take action to help challenge energy companies on their pricing, and how Greenpeace UK plans to mobilise local activism to help people with their energy costs.
From Greenpeace UK:
"Right now, Britain’s electricity market is rigged. Gas companies get to set the price of our power almost all the time — even when cheaper renewables are supplying the grid. That’s why our bills are sky-high and our economy is bleeding billions.
It doesn’t have to be this way. We’re demanding that the government take back control of gas power stations and run them for the public good. By moving gas plants into a Regulated Asset Base (RAB) — a system that treats them as a strategic reserve — we can:
- Stop gas profiteering and stabilise prices.
- Cut household bills by £65 a year and save businesses £3.3 billion by 2028.
- Protect vulnerable households from future energy shocks.
- Accelerate the shift to clean, secure renewable power.
This is a low-cost, high-impact reform that would save billions, support families and communities, and put the UK on track for a fairer, cleaner energy future."
A fuddle is an event where attendees bring their own food and drink to share with others. We welcome attendees bringing what they can to share, and please clearly label each item if there are likely to be allergy concerns. We also ask that the food brought is either vegetarian or vegan.
We ask attendees to please bring their own plates, cutlery and cups to use and take home with them.
The event is pay as you feel, we take cash and have an option to donate by card if required.
We open the space to community members who wish to promote local activities in the area focusing on green initiatives at the end of the event. You can also sign up to our mailing list to hear more about future fuddles and speaker sessions.
The schedule of the event is as follow:
- Arrival from 6.30pm
- Speaker starts at 7.00pm
- Break at 7.45pm and open the floor to community members at 8pm
- Finish at 8.30pm
You are welcome to eat and drink as the speakers are talking.
We look forward to seeing you there.
