About this Event
About this event
This is a free community engagement session organised by TCV and Barnet Council.
We will be learning about Brown Hairstreak Butterflies which are uncommon in the UK but have recently seen an increase in their population around London. Brown Hairstreaks lay their eggs on young blackthorn trees. We will be surveying blackthorn areas in Welsh Harp to find eggs and monitor population size around the reservoir.
The results will help determine future management techniques and how we can maintain or increase their potential habitats.
Warning - The blackthorn stands can be hard to access so if you have mobility issues or trouble bending down you might find parts of the egg survey difficult.
If you are interested in doing some pre-survey studying here is a link to a helpful and informative video all about Brown Hairstreak butterflies.
