Brooklyn FAM's 5th annual flagship festival celebrates Brooklyn’s African and Asian diaspora voices on the theme of . What roots us? Heals and grows us? Replenishes us?
Come nourish yourselves and our community through dance, music, community music-making, participatory puppet theatre, aromatherapy, art installations, mixed-media crafting, a participatory Bengali Alpona public art project, Bengali mask craft, Malian and Japanese indigo dyeing stations, and lots of beautiful and nourishing giveaways. Food and beverage will be available for purchase.
Check out this year’s event graphic below. Artist Sofia Marrero's hand-drawn illustration represents the yin-yang joining of our African and Asian cultures. The West African Sankofa bird shows reverence to our ancestors, reminding us to reflect on our past to understand our present. The flaming Asian phoenix symbolizes rebirth and renewal. Together, the birds embrace in the contrasting and complementary energies of our roots and our transformation.
