With feature films such as BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO and THE DUKE OF BURGUNDY, Peter Strickland has established himself as an adventurous director with a unique voice. The hallucinatory blend of avant-garde and genre films reveals his appreciation of transgressive cinema and the analogue medium of film. The British Shorts Retrospective "The Hypnotic Explorations of Peter Strickland" follows his journey as a filmmaker. From his early Super 8 works shot as a teenager to the experimental 16 mm shorts and music videos throughout his career, the programme explores the hypnotic worlds that he has captured on film. The short films have recently been digitally restored, some from "old negatives or hard drives that were left in a friend’s ex-spouse’s apartment or in a lock-up garage after one of my colleagues fell in love with someone thousands of miles away", as he puts it.
