The Brit Funk Association is a celebration of a musical movement led by the very artists who helped create it. Bringing together pioneering members of Light of the World, Hi-Tension and Beggar & Co, this acclaimed collective revisits the sound that defined Brit Funk in the late 1970s and 1980s, blending jazz-funk grooves, soulful horns and irresistible rhythm.
Performed by the original musicians who wrote and recorded the music, the set features genre-defining tracks such as "Time", "Mule Chant Number 2" and "I'm So Happy", alongside favourites including "London Town" and "Peace on Earth". These songs helped establish Brit Funk as a distinctive UK response to the American funk and jazz-funk explosion of the era.
Brit Funk emerged from London’s club scene and quickly developed a loyal following through bands such as Light of the World, Hi-Tension and Beggar & Co, whose musicians blended American funk influences with British jazz musicianship. Their records became staples of dancefloors and radio shows, shaping a sound that continues to influence funk and soul artists today. The Brit Funk Association brings these artists together on stage, offering audiences a rare opportunity to hear the music performed by the musicians who created it.
