About this Event
As part of the Bristol Future programme, and supported by the DfE Universal RISE programme, a series of Learning Visits have been set up. This learning visist will be to a Birmingham primary school - E-ACT Merritts Brook Academy.
At E-ACT Merritts Brook Academy, every child is encouraged to be the best version of themselves. With 67% pupil premium , 18% SEND and EAL above the national average , the high standards and expectations during the journey through the school enables end of KS2 results to be consistently above national averages for attainment and progress. The academy prides itself on delivering high-quality teaching where lessons are engaging and sequenced so that pupils build secure schema and make good progress. Pupils start their journey well below developmental expectations , building strong foundations within an exemplary nursery provision enabling GLD to be above national data.
As a UNICEF gold Rights Respecting school and with a curriculum that emphasises a balanced education — including forest school experiences and enrichment activities beyond the classroom — children not only achieve strong academic outcomes but also develop creativity, resilience and confidence. Having just achieved the IQM kite mark for inclusion the academies’ inclusive ethos ensures every pupil feels safe, valued and supported, and this nurturing environment allows learners to thrive.
The school has an embedded behaviour curriculum using MBA STYLE right from Nursery, developing strong social skills through consistently high expectations. The children are given leadership opportunities, helping pupils to become responsible, confident individuals ready for the next stage of their education and life beyond. Attendance is above both local and national averages through a balanced, graduated , yet robust approach. MBA have poverty proofed the academy and have their own ‘market place’ on site supplying a food and clothing bank to the school community.
Families consistently report that pupils feel safe, supported and proud of their school, and the academy’s most recent Ofsted inspection confirms that Merritts Brook continues to be a good school where children flourish academically and personally.
