About this Event
Remember when the music was everything? When the dancefloor had no phones, no bottles, just the beat and the bodies moving as one. A time when the party celebrated freedom, unity, and self-expression through music and dance and nothing else mattered—not tomorrow, not yesterday. That feeling never left. It just needed the right night to come back. Welcome to Brighter Days.
SUMMARY
Calling all house heads, dance music lovers, and anyone who's ever lost themselves on a dancefloor: Brighter Days is Matinee's love letter to the golden era of electronic music — and the sound that's keeping that spirit alive today. Rooted in the energy of the 90s & 00s scenes from NYC to Chicago to Ibiza, this is a night where nostalgia meets now.
Matinee is taking over Brooklyn's best venues, featuring award-winning sound systems, to deliver a sound that bridges the classics that once lit up Limelight and Amnesia with the modern tracks carrying that torch forward. Expect deep cuts and anthems sitting side by side with fresh edits and new music that feels like it could only exist because of what came before it. Non-stop high-energy grooves, retro synths, diva vocals, and that unmistakable four-on-the-floor transcendent feeling — all before your bedtime. Whether you came to two-step, sweat it out, or reconnect with the feeling of losing yourself, this is your house hedonist sanctuary.
Dress to rave. Bring the energy. Welcome to Brighter Days.
Dress Code: 90s-00s rave inspired. Think baggy silhouettes, metallics, platform sneakers, bucket hats, tiny sunglasses, cargo pants, baby tees, and anything reflective.
MUSIC
A high-energy, pulsating mix of electronic, house, and dance music — where 90s-00s classics and the modern tracks they inspired live on the same dancefloor. Matinee's resident DJs weave era-defining anthems with fresh cuts that carry the same spirit forward, keeping the energy moving all night long.
Think of the legends who built it — Daft Punk, Crystal Waters, Armand Van Helden, Tiesto, Frankie Knuckles, CeCe Peniston, Masters at Work, Cajmere (Green Velvet), Carl Cox, Sasha & John Digweed, Paul Oakenfold, Fatboy Slim, Groove Armada, The Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx, Ferry Corsten and more — alongside the artists keeping that energy alive today.
VENUE
Dead Letter No. 9 is one of Brooklyn's most singular nightlife destinations — a transformed former postal facility reimagined as a multi-room cultural venue, cocktail bar, and late-night dance space unlike anything else in the city. The venue features distinct areas including Cargo and The Foyer, which host late-night DJ sets spanning house, disco, and afrobeat.
The venue's layout has been described as maze-like with hidden rooms, rewarding exploration and making every visit feel a little different. Themed rooms, two dance floors, a creative DJ booth setup with a library-like backdrop, and affordable drinks make it an ideal spot for a low-key cocktail or a full night of dancing.
