OVERVIEW
Do you want to learn how to break? Whether you're a complete novice or have a few basic moves under your belt, this class will teach you the fundamental steps, techniques, and foundational skills of breaking, such as toprock, footwork, and freezes, and power. The instructor, Kwan Chan, is an experienced and passionate instructor who has been breaking for over 16 years and has trained and competed around the world. He will guide you through each move, providing step-by-step instructions and demonstrations.
You'll also learn about the history and culture of breaking, fostering a deeper connection and appreciation for this vibrant art form. No prior dance experience is necessary – just bring your enthusiasm, comfortable attire, and a willingness to break out of your comfort zone! Come and become part of a supportive community of dancers, all on a journey to express themselves through the power of breaking. Ages 6 and above.

LESSON FLOW
Each lesson will be different, but the following outlines a typical lesson flow:
- Short warm-up and stretch
- Short Lecture (history, philosophy, culture of breaking)
- Breaking Movement #1
- Breaking Movement #2
- Breaking Movement #3
- Short routine combining Movements #1 ~ #3
- Cooldown and stretch

- activewear (wear something that makes you feel cool!)

WHO IS KWAN?
Hello! こんにちわ！Bonjour! Hola! 你好!
My name is Kwan and I'm from Toronto, Canada. Breaking, also known as b-boying, b-girling, or breakdancing, is my greatest passion. I started breaking more than 16 years ago. Ever since I started, I've come to love everything about breaking. The music, the culture, the history, the people, the competitions, the training, the creativity, and so much more.
Now, through breaking, my mission is to enrich, enliven, and enlighten others.
- Enrich: Improve the quality of people’s mind, body, and spirit.
- Enliven: Bring fun, joy, and excitement into people’s lives.
- Enlighten: Educate about breaking, dance, and hip-hop culture.
I guarantee to teach with respect, professionalism, and authenticity. When it comes to breaking, I teach from my heart and soul.
I welcome all skill levels. My main language is English, but I can also speak a bit of Japanese (N3) and Cantonese (conversational).
MY DANCE BACKGROUND
I consider my mentors and teachers to be dancers in the Toronto break scene who emphasize style, musicality, creativity, originality, and authenticity, elements of the dance that I also tend to focus on. I specialize in an area of breaking called footwork and have developed my own unique and original style.
Throughout my time breaking, I have competed and trained with some of the best breakers in the world. Most recently, I have been living in Japan for the past 7 years where I have been training and competing. In September 2023, I moved to London to embark on a 2-year graduate program in dance therapy.
