*** Exploring how the world changes ***In our upcoming States of Matter workshop, children experiment with solids and liquids through hands-on activities and unusual materials that don’t always behave the way we expect.
As they stretch, pour, mix and test different substances, they begin to notice patterns, compare behaviours, and explore how materials can change under different conditions.
It’s less about “learning science facts” and more about:
→ Why does this feel different?
→ How can something act like both a solid and a liquid?
→ What happens if we change it?
These kinds of experiences help children develop curiosity, observation skills, early scientific thinking, and confidence in exploring how the world works.
They also support a deeper learning skill: becoming comfortable with uncertainty. When children experiment, they practise making predictions, testing ideas, noticing unexpected results, and trying again. This builds flexible thinking, problem-solving confidence, and the ability to see “I don’t know yet” as the beginning of discovery — not a failure.
