About this Event
A live, one-hour experience in Vancouver bars with one expert, one topic, and a room full of curious people, all with a drink in hand.
Lecture Topic: The Truth About Crime (That No One Talks About)
Most of us believe crime is complex, widespread, and best solved with more policing. But what if those assumptions are exactly what’s holding us back?
In this session, we’ll challenge some of the most common beliefs about crime, from “more arrests reduce crime” to “crime is everywhere”, and explore a different way of thinking that focuses on patterns, places, and prevention.
The result is a clearer, more practical understanding of what actually reduces crime, and why many well-intentioned solutions fail.
Meet the Speaker: Dr. Shannon Linning
Dr. Shannon Linning is an assistant professor in the School of Criminology at Simon Fraser University. Her work explores how police can create safer areas by partnering with property owners to reduce crime opportunities at and around their places.
