Das Open-Air-Festival präsentiert sechs aktuelle Kinoproduktionen, die in ihren Entstehungsländern „Kassenschlager“ sind, in Deutschland aber auf der großen Leinwand noch nicht zu sehen waren. Vor den Screenings laden wir zu thematischen Spotlights zur Einstimmung ein – mit prominenten Gästen!
Großes Bangen und Rätselraten begleiten den Kinostart jeder großen Filmproduktion: Ob sich das Publikum auf die erzählte Geschichte, die Star-Konstellation und die Filmsprache einlassen und massenhaft ins Kino strömen wird?
Box Office Around The World ist ein Filmfestival, das diesem Geheimnis aus Publikumssicht auf die Spur kommen will. Anders als Hollywood-Produktionen, die für den globalen Markt konzipiert werden, erlauben „Kassenschlager“ aus anderen Weltregionen oft überraschende Einblicke in das, was Menschen in Lagos, Buenos Aires oder Bangkok gerade bewegt. Der Schlüterhof liegt im Herzen Berlins – und umgeben von Sammlungen aus vielen Kulturen der Welt.
Das Festival Box Office Around the World präsentiert an zwei Wochenenden im August sechs aktuelle Kinoproduktionen, die in ihren Entstehungsländern Publikumserfolge und Kassenschlager sind, bislang aber in Deutschland nicht auf der großen Leinwand zu sehen waren.
Repräsentant*innen der Berliner Communities aus Thailand, Argentinien, Nigeria, Vietnam, Brasilien und Indien haben die Filme zusammen mit der Kuratorin Dorothee Wenner ausgesucht und ein Begleitprogramm entwickelt: Vor den Vorführungen unter freiem Himmel richten wir – mit Star-Aufgebot – auf jeden Film ein thematisches Spotlight.

On two weekends in August, the Schlüter Courtyard becomes a meeting place for film enthusiasts from all over the world – with summery drinks and snacks. The open-air festival presents six current cinema productions that are box office hits in their countries of origin but have not yet been shown on the big screen in Germany. Before the screenings, we invite you to thematic spotlights to get you in the mood – with prominent guests!
Great trepidation and guesswork accompany the release of every expensive film production: Whether the audience will get involved with the story told, star constellation and film language and flock to the cinema en masse?
Box Office Around The World is a film festival that wants to get to the bottom of this mystery from the audience’s point of view. Unlike Hollywood productions that are designed for the global market, box office hits from other regions of the world often allow surprising insights into what moves people in Ho Chi Minh City, Rio or Bangkok.
The Schlüter Courtyard is located in the heart of Berlin – and surrounded by collections from many cultures around the world.
Over two weekends in August, the Box Office Around The World festival presents six current cinema productions that are audience successes and box office hits in their countries of origin, but have not yet been seen on the big screen in Germany.
Together with representatives of the Berlin communities from Thailand, Argentina, Nigeria, Vietnam, Brazil and India and the curator Dorothee Wenner, the films were selected and an accompanying programme developed. Before the open-air screenings, a thematic spotlight – with a star-studded line-up – will be directed at each film.
