Botanical Watercolour Painting ~ LemonsA watercolour workshop with Karen Green
Saturday 16th May 2026
10am – 4pm Attic Studio
All abilities welcome
Working from a joyous lemon, you will learn how to compose, draw and paint from observation, using watercolour, to create a botanical painting that reflects an understanding of the subject whilst capturing the beauty of the fruit.
Karen, a botanical artist, will ease you into the workshop with some quick tonal sketches to show shadows and hi-lights. She will guide you through the steps, beginning with creating a shadow underlay using complimentary colours; show you how to use the wet-in-wet technique to create your first washes of yellow, then build layers of paint using the glazing technique to deepen your colours. There will be the opportunity to add leaves or cut open your lemon and paint the segments inside. During the session you will familiarize yourself with the materials and tools needed for botanical art and the techniques used, slowly building up layers of paint to create luminosity and depth.
