A black and white watercolour workshop with Karen Green
Saturday 28th March 2026
10am – 4pm Attic Studio
All abilities welcome
Working from a selection of tree twigs showing the first signs of Spring, particularly the Pussy Willow and Ash, you will learn how to compose, draw and paint from observation, using watercolour, to create a botanical painting that reflects an understanding of the subject whilst capturing the beauty of the plant.
Karen, a botanical artist, will ease you into the workshop with some playful sketching exercises alongside some botany exploration to help lead you into observational drawing and creating interesting compositions on the page. With one to one support and class demonstrations, you will experiment with watercolour techniques and accurage colour mixing, with a focus on painting black, white and botanical greys in watercolour, and why we don’t use it ‘straight from the tube!’
During the session you will familiarize yourself with the materials and tools needed for botanical art and the techniques used, slowly building up layers of paint to create luminosity and depth.
