Discover the beauty and versatility of gouache in this summer botanical painting workshop with Nancy Lyons. Gouache is an opaque, water‑based medium known for its rich color, velvety finish, and ability to create both delicate details and bold, expressive shapes. In this workshop, you’ll get comfortable with the medium while learning techniques that bring botanical subjects to life. Nancy will guide you through a step‑by‑step demonstration, showing how to build form, layer color, and create luminous petals and leaves. Then you’ll paint your own study of summer lilies, using watercolor gouache to capture their shape, movement, and vibrant seasonal color.
Whether you’re new to gouache or looking to expand your botanical painting skills, this workshop offers a relaxed, supportive environment to explore a beautiful medium and leave with a finished floral painting. Our courses are typically held in the lower level of Arlene's. Because access to the lower level is available only by stair, please let us know if using the stairs presents any difficulty for you in advance of the class so we can make alternate arrangements. We want to make sure everyone is able to enjoy and participate in our classes.
