Saint Peter’s Offers Booyah and Baklava for Dickens of a Christmas RIPON—The Parish of Saint Peter warmly invites community members to a Christmas Open House and holiday fundraiser on December 7th at 217 Houston Street, Ripon.
Traditional Wisconsin booyah will be available by the quart for $8 for pick-up starting at 1 p.m. until sold out. Booyah is a hearty soup stew that is a popular community dish in the greater Green Bay area, often affectionately known as “Belgian Penicillin.” Its ingredients include chicken, beef broth, potatoes, carrots, celery, cabbage, tomatoes, and various seasonings.
Additionally, homemade baklava, a traditional Turkish dessert made by Mother Ezgi, the parish priest, will be available for purchase in a 4-piece serving for $8. Delectable cookies will also be sold by the ½ dozen for $5 to satisfy your sweet tooth!
In conjunction with the sale of booyah, baklava, and cookies, all are welcome to attend the Christmas Open House from 1-3 p.m., featuring self-guided audio tours of the sanctuary. You can scan a QR code with your smartphone to embark on a historical tour of Ripon’s oldest house of worship! Built in 1860, the church is an example of the American Gothic architectural style, known as “Carpenter Gothic.” Many of the statues in the church were carved by German immigrants, and the altar stone originates from the Cathedral in Ripon, England. The church will be beautifully decorated for the Christmas season.
