About the book:
A loving window into the life of a Latinx/e/o family's shared experience with Alzheimer's, written by a first-generation Nicaraguan American author and educator.
Young Silvio hears, "your abuelitos are sick," and like so many of us, his heart starts to race. With the help of their parents, he and his siblings unpack their feelings and recognize what's within their control. Their familia spends a day with their abuelitos, finding ways to care for them and each other. Juntos: Living with Alzheimer's partners with readers to explore a heavy topic while providing helpful examples of how to unpack feelings and support loved ones.
With tug-at-your-heartstrings illustrations, Juntos: Living with Alzheimer's provides readers of all ages ways to engage with one another after receiving an Alzheimer's diagnosis. Silvio José Delgado, M.Ed. and Rachel Stotler have come together to pay tribute to the complexities of family and learning to face challenges with love.
About the author:
Silvio studied psychology at the University of Florida and received two master's degrees from Arizona State University in Secondary Education and Educational Leadership. He's passionate about building meaningful relationships in the spirit of mutual growth and making this world more loving than how we found it. Silvio has worked in the world of education for more than 18 years supporting students in the school and college settings, and as a first-generation Nicaraguan American, he is so grateful to be able to share some of his story with the world through his books. He and his partner live in St. Petersburg, FL with their dog, Charlie, and two cats, April and Bruno.
By purchasing a book from BookPeople, you are not only supporting a local, independent business – you’re showing publishers that they should continue sending authors to BookPeople.
