About this Event
Pictured: Tearing by Kevin McCollum (double-page spread)
The fifth edition of our photobook critique club! This session is designed for those at the start or end of the book-making process, offering space to talk about a work-in-progress, or reflect on something published a wee while ago. So if you've been searching for somewhere to talk about production or sequencing before going to print, share a dummy, or look back on an older work and discuss what you may do differently now... this is for you.
BOOKENDS is an opportunity to present a work-in-progress in a welcoming and informal environment, and ask for new perspectives on what you're working on. The session is designed for photographers working towards publishing or self-publishing a book or zine, and curious observers who love listening to others speak about their work. You do not need to be presenting a project to attend, but please select the relevant ticket when booking depending on if you plan on presenting work. This is so that we know how many people are looking for feedback.
Participants presenting work are encouraged to bring sequenced prints, mock-ups, or dummy copies of the book you will be speaking about. We can organise a projector in case you want to show digital content, but if so please let us know in advance of the session via email ([email protected]).
Practicalities //
Like all of our events, this does require a minimum attendance to go ahead, so please book early rather than last-minute. Booking will close 7 days before the event due to venue protocol as we will need to pass on a final list of names to security at this point. The venue is accessible via many main public transport links (just off Lothian Road and Princes Street) plus there is free on-street parking available nearby at this time. Snacks will be provided!
Ticketing //
This is a ticketed event with limited capacity and you must book in order to attend. Please don't feel that you have to pay to attend, we understand that money is tight. But if you wish to donate with your ticket, the suggested ticket price is £4, and all your contributions help us continue building AGITATE into something with a bigger (and better) output. Those who can pay more allow us to keep our public programme in place on a 'pay what you can' basis. Thank you.
Accessibility //
This event is open to everyone! The crit will be seated in our shared studio space at Saltire Court, 20 Castle Terrace. Please arrive at reception promptly for 7PM where one of the AGITATE team will meet you. The venue is wheelchair accessible and we will be meeting on the second floor, accessible via stairs or lift. There is an accessible toilet and plenty of quiet breakout space if needed.
