About this Event
Can war ever be justified? What are the grounds for thinking that it can? And what kinds of threats may it permissibly respond to?
Chris Finlay’s new book, (Oxford University Press, 2025), presents a republican theory of legitimate armed resistance and just war. It argues that domination should be front and centre of the ethical analysis of force and maintains that just war theory should be rethought around the paradigm case of resistance to enslavement. Durham University’s School of Government and International Affairs will host a workshop on the book on 29th May 2026.
