About this Event
What happens when Adivasi communities who lived without caste are pulled into the “Hindu fold”? In Viyyukka’s story Adivasis and Untouchability, you see sacred threads, new gods, and purity rules quietly remake a village – turning neighbours into “unclean” outsiders overnight. If you’ve ever wondered, like Ambedkar, how caste and untouchability actually enter communities, this book is essential reading.
We are excited to announce the Glasgow launch of Viyyukka: The Morning Star in collaboration with India Labour Solidarity! Viyyukka is a rare and compelling anthology of short stories written by women revolutionaries in Central India fighting against the state and multinational mining corporations to preserve their jal, jangal and jameen (land, forest, water). The unique collection features narratives that are “lived experiences written from within the movement” while the authors served as guerrilla soldiers.
At a time when indigenous communities are being attacked across the world, let us hear from the women who have been at the frontlines of the fight against capitalist-imperialist forces for the last 3 decades. The deadline for Operation Kagaar, the Indian state's genocidal attempt to wipe out the revolution, is set for the 31st of March. On this day, it is more pertinent than ever for us to stand in solidarity with the revolutionary tide.
